The Department of Public Works - Operations Division has been developing plans to address the deteriorated bulkhead located on the south side of Buccaneer Road.
Repairs to isolated bulkhead failures and sinkholes were completed earlier this year to address the aging infrastructure; however, an additional failure occurred this week at the western end of Buccaneer Road. This repair will be completed by our Annual Services Contractor, who will begin as soon as materials are available (delivery is being expedited). In addition to this repair, crews will continue to monitor the remaining bulkhead and identify problem areas and perform maintenance to minimize the chance of additional failures.
As part of the upcoming budget cycle for Fiscal Year 2017-2018, Public Works - Operations has requested a new Capital Improvement Program (CIP) to replace the existing bulkhead. Until a new bulkhead can be funded and installed, parking is prohibited in the grass area between Buccaneer Road and the bulkhead. Additional “No Parking” signs will be installed and enforced. If needed, crews may also install fencing to help restrict traffic in this area.
We appreciate your patience while we address this problem. Should you have any questions concerning the project, or need additional information, please feel free to contact me at (757) 385-1505 or firstname.lastname@example.org
